The Cave of Thor (Ghar Thour)

غار ثور

The Cave of Thor (Ghar Thour) where Prophet Muhammad (SAWS) together with Abu Bakr were hiding for 3days during Hijrah from Kuraish (Bedouin tribe near Mekkah that at first were against Muhammed but later became His followers). This cave is about 2.5 km from Masjid Al-Haram in the suburbs of Makkah. Here a miracle is supposed to happen: an acacia tree had sprung up in front of the cave, dove flow over, woved its nest and laid eggs. Also spider spread its web over cave’s entry that gave impression of indisturbed place. It is believed, that this way God has saved prophet from enemies so he could spread across the world message from Allah.

I do hope to visit Cave of Thour one day during my Hajj, as this place is more than a legend for me. It’s a sign of Faith and hope that one should never loose.

“If you help him (Mohammed) not (it does not matter), for Allah did indeed help him when the disbelievers drove him out, the second of the two ; when they (Mohammed and Abu Baker) were in the cave, he (Mohammed) said to his companion (Abu Baker) ‘ be not sad (or afraid), surely Allah is with us! Then Allah sent down His Sakinah (calmness, tranquility, peace) upon him, and strengthened him with forces (Angels) which you saw not, and made the word of those who disbelieved the lowermost, while the word of Allah that became the uppermost, and Allah is the All Mighty, All Wise”
Qur’an, 9:40
