Durood

Durood known also as Salat-un-Nabi or Salawaat, is believed to be great source of blessing not only for the one that recites it, but also bestowed upon prophets from Abraham to Mohammed (SAWS).

There’s hadith saying:

Jib-rail (AS) came once to prophet Mohammed (SAWS) and said:

“Allah has given me the knowledge to count every leaf on earth. Every fish in the sea. Every star in the sky. Every particle of sand on earth, But there’s only one thing I cannot count.”

Prophet Mohammed (SAWS) asked Jib-rail (AS)

“What is it?”

Jib-rail (AS) replied:

“When one of your Ummah recites Durood & Salaams to you the blessing Allah showers upon him becomes impossible for me to count.”

“O Allah, exalt Muhammad and the true followers of Muhammad as Thou didst exalt Abraham and the true followers of Abraham, Thou art the Praised, the Magnified. O Allah, bless Muhammad and the true followers of Muhammad as Thou didst bless Abraham and the true followers of Abraham, Thou art the Praised, the Magnified.”

Recitation of these two sentences for a certain number of times, mostly within the sets of daily prayers, suppose to grand forgiveness of sins as well as bring relief to calamities of this world. Hadrat Sheikh Yusuf Bin Ismail (AR) has also said that Salawaat bring 100% success and happiness to the reciter, prosperity and favour from God. Person is being surrounded by the Angels of Allah, and showered with mercy and peace.

One might not realize however, even deeper meaning of Durood that represents Holy Alliance between God and Abraham, fulfilled by Mohammed. For that, it is muslim Sunnah, to remember about this covenant and pray for our prophets.

Allama Sakhawi (RA) has narrated from the Hadith of Hadhrat Ali (RS):

“Whenever you enter the masjid, recite Durood for Rasoolullah (SAWS)”

- and has also quoted a Hadith narrated by Hadhrat Fatima (RA), the daughter of Rasool (SAWS) who said:

“Whenever Rasoolullah (SAWS) entered the masjid he recited first Durood and Salaam for Hadhrat Muhammad (SAWS) (i.e. upon Himself) …
